WEEKLY DEVOTION – NOVEMBER 29, 2020
“The Gift of Gratitude”
The posture of gratitude is a gift for the possessor of such an attitude and the recipient of such an attitude. Gratitude is a precious value for our character development and a marvelous contribution we can give to the primary relationships of our life.
Such an attitude is displayed by the Psalmist in Psalm 118:24, with the exuberant utterance, “This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” This is a way of saying; every day is a day of thanksgiving when we reflect upon the grace and goodness of the Lord. No other attitude should dominate our minds or trouble our spirits. Whatever we are going through and whatever hand we are being dealt, through faith we should assert, this is the day that the Lord has made.
By rejoicing, we assertively push aside all other dispositions. When we rise in the morning thinking about the goodness of the Lord, we silence all negative feelings and talking, and we focus our attention on what really matters the most, the provisions and promises of God. It is then that gladness captures our spirits and dominates our actions. So, regardless of what is going on in the world on the outside, we can control what is going on in the interior of our lives by electing, an attitude of gratitude.
Dear Heavenly Father may my praise of your goodness and grace be the focus of my life and pervade my spirit. Amen
