WEEKLY DEVOTION – DECEMBER 6, 2020
“A Time to Sing”
Sing to the Lord a new song for he has done marvelous things; his right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him.
Psalm 98:1
The Advent season is a season of joy and celebration. It is a time to remember and reflect on the meaning of Christmas and the message of hope it entails. It is a time to sing new songs of praise and thanksgiving.
In Psalm 98 the melody of praise is so beautifully prominent as an exercise for the faithful. The author remembers the handiwork of God through his work of salvation that he has made known to the entire world.
The Lord has made his salvation known and revealed his righteousness to the nations. (2)
God’s work through love and faithfulness has blessed the people of faith for generations and all the earth has given witness to his marvelous acts. When we think of the incarnation and the Christ event and the love that made it possible, we think of rejoicing.
Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth, burst into jubilant song with music; make music to the Lord with the harp, with the harp and the sound of singing, with trumpets and the blast of the ram’s horn- shout for joy before the Lord, the King. (4-6)
When we think of the meaning of Christmas, it is time to sing to the glory of God.
Dear Lord, give me a new song to sing of your glory and a song to sing of your love. Amen
