WEEKLY DEVOTION – April 5, 2021
The Presence, The Power, The Privilege
Following the resurrection of Jesus Christ, his post-Calvary appearances, and his edifying words to his closest followers, he issues the “the great commission,” in Matthew 28: 16-20. After declaring all authority in heaven and earth, he tells the disciples to go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and to teach them to hear and obey the words of the Master.
The security of such an awesome task is to be found in the words and promise that follows, “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” These words reassure us of the ever presence of God, remind us of a power greater than our own to complete the task, and privilege of continuing the work of Christ in the world.
Dear Eternal God, thank you for always being there, and for your power, which is our resource, and for the opportunity to work for you in the world. Amen
