WEEKLY DEVOTION – April 26, 2021
“Because He Lives”
The New Testament affirms the truth and the power of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. In the first letter to the church at Corinth, the Apostle Paul argues the point that without the message of the resurrection there would be no substantial hope and there would be no power to truly preach the gospel of Christ. “And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith.” (1 Corinthians 15:14)
This one central biblical truth and doctrine of the church increases the quality of our lives of faith. Simply to know the truth of this doctrine gives us a sense of hope in every human experience and in the trials of life. It signals that we can overcome all things thrown our way. And we can do so with the assurance that we are not alone, but that God is with us. Therefore, the Apostle closes the fifteenth chapter of 1 Corinthians with such exuberance and reassurance. “Death has been swallowed up in victory. Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting? The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (vs. 54-57)
Now with this knowledge you can stand, you can proclaim your truth in God, and you can serve the Lord, with steadfastness.
Dear Heavenly Father, let the truth of the resurrected Lord invade every area of my life so I can serve you better. Amen
