“Thoughts That Matter”
In Paul’s letter to the church of Philippi his final exhortation is a word of instruction and inspiration. The believing community is told to keep a positive attitude while serving the Lord. This includes an attitude of gratitude for the wonderful blessings of the life we have with Christ. They are to worship with gladness, praise the Lord in all circumstances and pray with assurance. This kind of conduct will ensure the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, and guards their hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. These are relevant words for us as well, as we serve the Lord in the present world, we live in.
As the great Apostle closes the chapter, which contains an appeal for steadfastness and unity, he challenges them to adjust their attitude toward life, people and problems. “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things.”
These are thoughts that matter the most as we make our way through life trusting God, facing fear, fighting for the good, the right, and the truth. When our attitudes are right our conduct follows. Let us think positive and good thoughts today.
Dear Lord, may the mercy, grace and peace you bestow upon my life be the guiding principle of my thoughts and my action. Amen
