“Living with Gratitude”
This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.
Psalm 118:24
The psalmist really nailed it when declaring upon deep reflection that each day is a gift from God and should be treated as such. This scripture reminds us to not take for granted the blessings of each day. And calls us to an attitude of gratitude which sustains us through whatever life and the day may bring.
We live in a world that is filled with complaints about everything imaginable. The food we eat, the businesses we frequent, the highways we drive, the lines we stand in, the environment around us. And the list goes on and on. We complain a lot for people who have so many wonderful opportunities and daily privileges. This complaining in most cases invites negative and depressing thoughts, which only take us deeper into a kind of emotional despair.
This Psalm of old serves as a needed prescription for the daily journey. Instead of complaining about everything, we are encouraged to be grateful about everything. And especially the life we enjoy through faith in God and in the experiences of God’s goodness expressed in our lives in numerous ways. So today, let us rejoice, be glad and by all means be grateful.
Dear God, I am grateful for all you give to me every day of my life, you My Lord, are wonderful to me. Amen
