WEEKLY DEVOTION – OCTOBER 11, 2020
I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.
If there is anything we need more of today, it is love. With all the divisions apparent in our social lives and all the differences in our views, and all the challenges with our efforts to create community, we need more love.
Jesus said that the mark of the Christian community is love for one another. By this, he taught, they will know that you are my disciples. Not by words alone, not by works alone, but by love.
Love is the active force that honors human life, the needed ingredient to build bridges to our neighbors and the consistent power to embrace the “other.” According to the New Testament it is the most excellent way. “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.”
1 Corinthians 13:4-8
May love of God, love of others and love of self be the order of our day.
Lord, fill me with your love for the people of the world, my brothers and sisters in Christ, whoever they may be, and love for you. Amen
