For Week of December 07, 2020
As we celebrate the meaning of Christmas and the arrival of the Advent season, we are encouraged to spend time in prayer for the world to experience more love, more hope, more justice and to be a better place. Isaiah chapter 40 speaks of a voice of one calling in the wilderness stressing the importance of preparing a way for the Lord to enter our space and influence our lives. One of the ways we prepare for the celebration of Christmas is by engaging in confession and practicing assurance of God’s mercy and grace. Each day this week, let us pray the prayer of confession and let us receive the gift of assurance of pardon.
This prayer may help you with your own prayers of confession:
God of love,
all year long we pursue power and money,
yet you come in weakness.
All season long we covet great material gifts,
when you alone offer what is lasting.
Through the work of this Lord Jesus,
who comes among us full of grace and truth,
forgive us,
heal us,
correct us,
Then open our lips,
that we may sing your praise with the angels,
and remake our lives,
that we may witness to your transforming love.
Through Christ, our Lord. Amen
The Worship Sourcebook
Happy are those whose transgression is forgiven,
whose sin is covered.
Happy are those to whom the Lord imputes no iniquity,
And in whose spirit, there is no deceit.
