WEEKLY DEVOTION -February 8, 2021
Accessing Our Strength
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.
To prepare the believing community of faith for the living of the Christian life, the Apostle Paul turns to the reality of spiritual warfare. Regardless of how sincere or dedicated a Christian may be, the nature of the spiritual battle should not be overlooked. We must and will confront organized evil schemes and the assault of the evil one. There is a personification of evil in our world today and it is a fierce force to kill and destroy what is good.
The urging to be strong is linked with the necessity to be assertive and involved in utilizing the resources God has made available through the power of faith. The belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the openness and readiness to share the gospel message, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, the sword of the Spirit and the practice of consistent prayer, are all available and at our disposal. We must use them.
All these spiritual weapons are given to us by God’s grace for us to stand against evil, to fight for principles and wholesome values, not people, and to endure the negative attacks that come our way when we take a stand for truth.
Dear God, thank you for the help needed to fight the good fights of faith in my life and in the world. May your name be glorified. Amen
