WEEKLY DEVOTION – June 07, 2021
“Walking By Faith”
I recently joined my wife on a walk at a local park surrounded by a beautiful lake, and I was reminded of the value and blessings of walking together. The nature path was soothing and provided a time for reflection, fellowship and exercise. This effort at improving health and spending time together illustrated for me the importance of partnership in walking and the joy it brings. What came to mind also is our faith walk and the promise of God’s presence all the way. Many others were there with partners, walking, running, and bicycle riding. I was struck by the number of people who came out for the same reason, and that most were with friends, loved ones, special pets and children.
In the book of Hebrews, we are encouraged by the image of running a race and exercising our faith in God. In the 12th chapter, it says we are not alone on our journeys but are instead surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses. So, we should run with perseverance while fixing our eyes upon Jesus Christ, who is the pioneer and perfecter of faith. We are urged to run with confidence with God’s plan for our lives. And we should know that many are with us and cheering us on to the completion of our goals.
When we grow weary, we can look to Jesus who is our model calling us to keep walking, running and trusting God, not give up, and win the prize. As we walk, run and work by faith, let us “consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.”
Dear Lord, please give me the faith and confidence to keep walking in your ways so that your blessings may abide with me forever. Amen
