WEEKLY DEVOTION – June 14, 2021
This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. (Psalm 118:24 KJV)
In Psalm 118 the author begins with a sense of gratitude and acts of thanksgiving. On reflection of God’s goodness and God’s mercy there is the shout of praise and rejoicing. This Psalm serves as a call to worship for the covenant people. And it should serve as a call to worship for you and me.
With the knowledge of God’s mercy and grace the response of the believer is, “The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid, what can mere mortals do to me?” (Verse 6) This assurance is the outcome of a solid relationship with God for times of trials and challenges. No matter what we may face on today’s journey, this knowledge will bring a sense of peace. “It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in humans.” (Verse 8)
When we too reflect deeply on the care God has provided for us time and time again, we cannot help but worship in gratitude. We will carry a melody of praise throughout the day and everywhere we go. Because “The Lord is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation. Shouts of joy and victory resound in the tents of the righteous; The Lord’s right hand has done mighty things!” (Verses 14-15)
Let us this day and everyday sing in unison with the Psalmist, “You are my God, and I will praise you; you are my God, and I will exalt you. Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.” (Verses 28-29)
Praises to your name, Dear Lord, for the great things you have done and continue to do. Amen
