Spirituality: Looking for a Way into Ourselves
The experience of salvation is not simply that moment of realization when God as Savior, particularly, Jesus as the Christ, becomes a powerful presence in one’s life. Salvation is an ongoing, daily encounter. Just as one cannot rely on the air breathed in 1990 to provide the necessary oxygen and other nutrients for life today, one cannot rely on the experience of grace received ten years ago to keep one in relationship with God today. The catalyst for the salvation experience is the Divine-human relationship. If one claims to be saved, yet hates, how can this be? If one claims to be born again, yet abuses others, lies, steals, cheats, manipulates on a daily basis, how can we possibly love God?
